Own a Generic Top Level Domain in Just 1,85,000 USD -ICANN Proposes to Relax Norms
ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) proposes to open up Generic Top Level Domains such as .com, .org, .net, .info etc. for the general public.
Undoubtedly, the same shall be at the high cost of US$ 1,85,000. The proposal is also to open up gTLD space for languages other than English.
With the opening up of the gTLD space, the organizations on the on hand shall be able to reserve their own identity such as .disney or .cocacola but at the same time would need to put their emphasis on the management and defending third party abusive registrations.
The maintanance and defending cost shall be over and above the cost of buying the gTLD.
The proposal shall be detrimental to the growing and developing organizations which shall no tbe in the position to spend the high amounts of money.

GoDaddy Accused of Domain Warehousing
Go Daddy, an Accredited Registrar of ICANN has been reportedly being indulged in a practice of Domain Warehousing. The news has been reported by Cnet News.

.CM to be launched on October 15
Netcom is launching Country Level Top Level Domain (ccTLD) of Republic of Cameroon (Dot cm) on 15th October, 2008.
The Launch of .cm domains shall be started with the launch of Sunrise Period which gives Trademark Owners first chance to register the company or corporate names before it is made public on first cum first serve basis.

.IN Domain Name Dispute Arbitration Fee Slashed
IPRFirm, New Delhi: .IN Registry has slashed its Domain Name Dispute Resolution Arbitration fee.
The fee charged by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) was as follows -:
.IN Administration Fee :Rs. 5,000
Arbitrators Fee : Rs. 25,000
The new fee schedule which is in force now has revised as follows -:
.IN Administration Fee : Rs. 1,000
Arbitrators Fee : Rs. 9,000
For Personal Hearing : Rs. 5,000/- per hearing (Maximum to four hearings)
It is expected to increase the filing of .INDRP Disputes with the registry which was detrimental to the high costs earlier.
